Overview
We are using Notice & Note, Which consists of 6 "signposts" that alert students to important moments when they are reading. These are strategies for close reading and deeper comprehension of what we are reading.
Signposts
The six signposts are: Contrast and Contradictions, Aha Moment, Tough Questions, Words of the Wiser, Again & Again, and Memory Moment. There descriptions are listed to the right of the signpost image in each picture below. Students are working toward recognizing these signposts in the chapter books they are reading and the novel we are reading as a class. However, these signposts can also be found in commercials on TV, TV shows, and in movies!
Anchor Questions
There is an anchor question associated with each of the signposts. Students are working to be able to answer these anchor questions and relate their answers not only directly to the reading, but also infer on the author's purpose behind what they are reading.
The anchor questions are in the boxes above labeled, "Stop & Ask."

Home Connection
Students can work on recognizing these signposts and answering the anchor questions when they are reading, watching television, and/or watching movies at home! We keep a reading journal in class in which they record signposts related to our class novel. This can also be done at home, if your child is interested.
